Top 4 Things to do at Balboa Island

Balboa Boat Rentals

Balboa Island was originally a sandbar. Developer William S. Collins turned it into an island between 1905 and 1913. Now 3000 people live there, and on weekends and holidays, the population grows with visitors from Southern California.

Newport Beach is well known for miles of sandy beaches along with great surfing and upscale shopping. You can find an amazing meal, and spend the day doing a lot of different activities.

Going on a day trip to Balboa Island can be as simple as walking through the local shops and restaurants, but there are plenty of other things to do as well. If you are feeling active, you can go out on the water with a rented boat, or do any of the following activities.

Take The Ferry

There are a few ways to get to Balboa Island, either by road or by ferry. It may take longer by the ferry, but this can be a wonderful experience. You can also come by ferry, and then depart on the road. The ferry is a great time and has been around since 1910. Now three cars at a time can ride on the ferry for only $2.25 per vehicle. With a lovely view of Newport Harbor, this is a wonderful experience.

Explore by Boat

Balboa Island is located in Newport Harbor. This is known as one of the largest recreational boat harbors in the United States, and the best way to enjoy it is on the water. This is where Balboa Island Boat Rentals comes in. Rent a boat and float at your leisure. Many locals often rent small electric Duffy Boats and ride around looking at the mansions. The best part is that you do not need any experience to pilot a Duffy Boat. Grab 8 or 12 people, and float along the water. Grab some champagne and enjoy your day out on the water.

Head to the Balboa Fun Zone

Across the water from the island is the Balboa Fun Zone. This is an incredible place that offers rides, games, and plenty of junk food. Whether you want to go as a family, on a date, or just with friends, this is a great place to go.

The Ferris wheel has been providing views of the harbor and the Pacific Ocean since 1936. Take time for this ride and then go play some arcade games. Once you get hungry grab a hamburger or corn dog and finish it with ice cream.

Go Paddling

There are calm waters in the harbor which is a great place to kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Even if you do not have experience in these sports you can still learn how to do it. There are hourly and daily rentals.
